About the city

Cologne is one of Germany's largest cities, with over two millennia of history. The city sits on the left bank of the Rhine and is renowned for its magnificent cathedral, a masterpiece of medieval architecture. The city center is compact and easily walkable, with numerous museums, galleries, and historic buildings scattered through narrow streets.

Visitors come to Cologne for its Roman remains, Renaissance townhouses, and vibrant cultural scene. The city is also known for its local beer, Kölsch, a light and characterful brew served in distinctive small glasses. The right bank of the Rhine offers pleasant walks and views across to the cathedral. At night, the illuminated cathedral dominating the skyline creates a particularly atmospheric sight.
