Niš is one of the rare cities where you need nothing for public transport: no ticket, no card, no app. Within the City of Niš, city and suburban transport is free for all passengers — you simply board the vehicle.
This guide explains what exactly “free” means and where it applies, how the line network is organised, what night departures exist and how to use busevi.rs to always know when your bus arrives.
Free for everyone — no category exceptions
Riding city and suburban transport within the City of Niš is free for every category of passenger: pupils, students, employees, pensioners, visitors — everyone. No ticket is bought or validated; there are no validators and no eligibility checks.
Free travel applies every day, on all city and suburban lines within the city territory.
The line network
The city network consists of bus lines numbered 1–13 plus lines 34 and 36, while suburban lines connect surrounding settlements with the centre. Every line on busevi.rs has timetables for weekdays, Saturday and Sunday, both directions and all stops in order.
For spatial orientation use the line map — you see the whole route on the map and can easily tell which line passes near you.
Night departures
Some city lines also have night departures after midnight — free as well. Important: on some lines the night departure runs only on certain days (Fridays, for example), so check the exact time in the line’s timetable before relying on it.
Knowing when your bus arrives
Open your stop on busevi.rs: the stop page shows all lines calling there and timetable-based arrival estimates. Riding the same route daily? Save the stop with the star — it stays at hand on the “My transport” page.
For unfamiliar routes there is the journey planner: enter origin and destination and it builds the route with walking legs and times.
Practical tips
A few small things that make riding around Niš easier:
- Weekend departures are less frequent — check Saturday/Sunday timetables separately.
- Suburban lines run less often: check the last departure back in advance.
- Friday-only night departures can mislead — always check the timetable for the specific day.
