Start of preparatory works on the dismantling of the Old Sava Bridge and traffic changes
Change details
From Saturday, 2 November, preparatory works on the dismantling of the Old Sava Bridge begin. From that date, traffic on the bridge will be suspended and the disconnection and removal of utility installations will begin, followed by the removal of the rails, the removal of the roadway and, finally, the disassembly and removal of the main load-bearing structure.
In line with the works, there will be significant changes to the traffic regime and to public transport services.
Public transport changes
Tram lines are being diverted to the route via Most na Adi, with the following service regime:
Tram lines 7 and 9 (designations 7L and 9L): In both directions, from the Savski trg zone they will run along the following route: Savska – Bulevar vojvode Mišića – „Radnička“ interchange – Most na Adi – Bulevar heroja sa Košara – Bulevar Crvene armije – Bulevar Milutina Milankovića – Antifašističke borbe and then along the regular route to Blok 45.
Temporary bus line 9A (Trg Slavija – Blok 45): Introduced to cover, at 12-minute intervals, the part of the route not served by trams (Bulevar Milutina Milankovića, Milentija Popovića and Sajmište).
Route of line 9A: Trg Slavija – Nemanjina – Balkanska – Gavrila Principa – Pop Lukina – Brankov most – temporary diversion onto Ušće Street – Ušće (Bulevar Mihajla Pupina towards the city) – Sajmište – Zemunski put – along the tram right-of-way to Milentija Popovića Street and then along the regular tram route to Blok 45.
Bus lines 78 and 83: Due to earlier damage and the preparatory works, these lines permanently operate via Brankov most, along the following route: Nemanjina – Balkanska – Gavrila Principa (towards Banjica and Crveni krst via Admirala Geprata Street) – Pop Lukina – Brankov most – Bulevar Mihajla Pupina and then regularly towards Zemun.
🚌 Note on stops: On the diverted sections of the routes, vehicles will use all existing stops, as well as the newly introduced temporary stops:
„Kamenička 1“ and „Brankov most 1“ (towards Trg Slavija) – for lines 9A, 78 and 83.
„Staro sajmište“ (towards Blok 45) – for line 9A.
Road traffic regime
According to information from the Secretariat for Traffic, on-site regulation will function as follows:
Right bank of the Sava (city side):
Vehicles will be informed by traffic signage about the closure of the bridge and directed towards Brankov most.
On Karađorđeva Street, at the intersection with Zemunski put, an additional traffic lane is being added. In this way, Karađorđeva will have two continuous lanes, while the third will be reserved exclusively for left turns into Zemunski put. Traffic light operation has been adjusted to this change.
Left bank (Novi Beograd):
Access to the bridge itself will be permanently prohibited, and drivers will be informed of this by signage.
After the completion of the first phase of preparatory works, the regime changes so that vehicles will be allowed to travel across the former tram right-of-way, in the direction from Milentija Popovića to Zarija Vujoševića, from where they will merge into Sajmište Street from two lanes.
Ongoing monitoring
The Secretariat for Public Transport and the Secretariat for Traffic will constantly monitor this temporary traffic regime and, if necessary, introduce additional regulatory measures so that public transport and traffic run as smoothly as possible for the duration of the works.
